When you send an email via hotmail, it converts the entire address to lowercase. So if you enter someemail+UPPERlower@whatever.com, hotmail converts it to “someemail+upperlower@whatever.com.”
This is a huge bug, right? Actually, let me put that another way. This is a huge bug.
According to the RFC, “SMTP implementations MUST take care to preserve the case of mailbox local-part.” Or to have wikipedia drop some double negatives on you, “it must not be assumed to be case-insensitive.”
Am I missing something, or is this a pretty huge problem? Anybody at hotmail care to weigh in?
