A few years ago, after leaving Vimeo, I walked and walked around Manhattan and ended up with a job at The New York Times. Today is my last day.
Working at The Times was a dream come true in a lot of ways. It’s an amazing place to spend the day, filled with really, really smart people doing very important work and doing it well. The job itself gave me a lot of opportunities that I definitely wouldn’t have had normally.
However, I’ve always had a bit of an entrepreneurial spirit, and with a second kid on the way, I realize that there is no time like the present to make a move.
My little project has taken on a life of its own and the time feels right to pursue it now. The stars have aligned and the folks at Betaworks/bit.ly are going to let me linger around some days to help ensure the news.me launch goes smoothly. It’s great to be able to take on something new, but also tie up the loose ends.
Thanks to everyone at The New York Times and at Betaworks/bit.ly. I’m proud of the past, happy in the present, and I’ve never been more excited for the future. It’s going to be a wild year.
